The frequency of them feels out of place. There's a lot of sex scenes, some just referenced and others in detail. Strange rituals and secret societies, yes please!īarker's writing can feel meandering and aimless. Sadly, it doesn't happen that often, but the mix of the mundane and the fantastic is something I like. Barker lets mysterious stuff happens, when there's the occult and the weirdness at work. Simon Vance is a superb narrator and elevates the work. The gradual discovery of a more supernatural reality feels overall reasonable

There's mystery stuff, and I do like mystery stuff! The sex scenes I encountered were a nice blend of graphic descriptions that didn't go completely overboard. There's mystery, magic and erotica along the way as they seek to find out the secrets behind the impending, ominous, possibly world ending 'reconciliation'.īarker can be a deft writer when he wants to, and has a way with words. In super short, Imajica is about a man and a woman finding out that the earth is just one plane of existence out of five- and that for some reason, it has been more or less cut off from the other four.
